Emergency! April 3 deadline! Amazon's mandatory "lead-free" certification: if you don't submit, the link will go straight to the bottom of the shelf!
Published: 2026-03-25

The platform no longer accepts sellers to upload their own reports, which must be submitted directly by ANSI-accredited organizations, and the brand and model may fail to be certified even if there is a single word difference.

"It's over, my faucet link is down!"

In the past two days, many Amazon seller groups have exploded. A large number of sellers received an urgent compliance notice from Amazon: it is necessary toApril 3, U.S. timeSubmit documentation of compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) "lead-free" requirements for specific products involving contact with drinking water or installed in a water supply system by the end of the year.Late submissions will result in the relevant ASIN being banned - what we often refer to as "links gone to the dogs"!

Today is March 25th, with less than 10 days left until the deadline. This is not an ordinary compliance reminder, but aUltimatums before enforcementToday's article gives you a clear idea: which products need to be certified. Today an article to give you a thorough: which products need to be certified? How to certify? What to do now?

I. Core changes: the platform no longer accepts sellers to upload on their own

The biggest difference between this certification and previous ones is:

Amazon made it clear:Reports or certification documents uploaded by sellers themselves will no longer be accepted!

All compliance documents must be submitted byANSI (American National Standards Institute) accredited third party certification bodySubmit directly to the Platform.

This means that any attempt to "photoshop" reports, buy fake certificates, or submit documents on your own from unofficial sources will result infail completelyThe seller can no longer "drill through". Sellers can no longer "drill holes" and must go through the formal certification process.

Second, which products need certification? Detailed dismantling of the six categories

According to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations and Amazon's latest enforcement requirements, whereProducts in contact with drinking water or installed in water supply systemsAll of them need to comply with this "lead-free" requirement. These include the following six categories:

1. Pipeline equipment category
Mainly end-use water equipment that draws water from the user end or connects to electrical appliances. For example: faucets (kitchen faucets, basin faucets, bathtub faucets), automatic water dispensers, ice machines, shower equipment (showerheads, shower columns), toilet filler valves, dishwashers, water heaters, coffee makers, water purifiers, and water dispensers.

2. Machinery and equipment
Mainly installed in the water supply system for the control, measurement, regulation or treatment of water flow mechanical devices. For example: water meters, various types of valves (ball valves, gate valves, check valves), pressure-reducing valves, pumps, water hammer eliminators, chemical treatment agent injectors, filters and filter shells, water treatment equipment.

3. Pipeline-related products
Mainly the core piping and connecting parts products for conveying drinking water in the whole water supply system. For example: potable water pipes (copper, PVC, PEX, CPVC, etc.), various types of fittings (elbows, tees, couplings), flexible hoses, corrugated pipes, tap sleeves, pipe adapters.

4. Connecting materials category
Auxiliary materials used primarily for piping connections and seals, the chemical components of which may precipitate into water. Examples include: gaskets, O-rings, seals, lubricants, sealants, caulks, adhesives, solder, flux, duct tape (raw tape), and thread sealants.

5. Barrier protection materials
It is mainly a material that is coated on the inside or outside of drinking water facilities to provide protection or corrosion protection. Examples include: paints (potable water tank/pipe interior paints), coatings, cement mortar linings, tank linings, epoxy resins, polymer additives, and anti-corrosion coatings.

6. Process media and plastic materials
Mainly media materials used in water treatment processes, and various types of plastic raw materials used in the manufacture of water-related components. For example: filter materials (activated carbon, quartz sand), ion exchange resins, softening salts, ABS, nylon, polycarbonate, polyethylene, PVC and other plastic raw materials.

III. These products are exempt

Not all water-related products require certification. In particular, the Platform notes that the following are exempted:

  • wooden pan used as toilet
  • urinal
  • bidet
  • Fire hydrant, snagging section
  • Products for non-potable uses (industry, agricultural irrigation, etc.)

If your product falls into one of the above exempted categories, you can breathe a sigh of relief. But if not, do take it seriously!

Fourth, the main points of operation: the brand model must be exactly the same

Since this certification is submitted directly by a third-party organization, the demand for accuracy of information has never been higher.Any subtle differences may result in authentication failure:

  • on the authentication documentbrand name, must be with the brand on file in the Amazon back officeidentical(Spelling, capitalization, and spaces must not be wrong)
  • on the authentication documentmodel number, must be linked to the Amazon backend for the ASIN model numberidentical(Model number format and numerical alphabetical order must not be wrong)

In the event of a discrepancy, the platform is unable to successfully match the certification file to your ASIN, and ultimately the certification is invalid and the link remains at risk of being taken down.

V. What should you do now? Four-step response method

Step 1: Immediate self-examination (to be completed today)

Log in to your Amazon back office and check the "Account Status" page for compliance notifications. Check one by one whether your products are within the scope of the six categories of certification. If you are sure that you need to be certified, take action immediately.

Step 2: Confirmation of exemptions

If your product belongs to exempted categories such as toilet, industrial/irrigation use, etc., please confirm whether you need to submit relevant instructions or declarations. In some cases, although the product itself is exempted, it needs to be confirmed by the background operation, otherwise the platform may still misjudge.

Step 3: Contact the accreditation body (by March 27 at the latest)

Immediately contact a third-party lab or certification body with ANSI accreditation to start the certification process. Confirm that the other party can complete the audit and submit directly to Amazon by April 3rd.Attention: You must find the certification body from the official channel, do not trust any "fast certification" agent, so as not to waste time and money.

Step 4: Check the information and submit the application

When submitting a certification application, make sure that the brand and model information submitted to the certification body matches the ASIN information on Amazon's back officeaccurate. It is recommended to take a screenshot to save the background information and send it to the certification body for checking and confirmation before starting the process.
