Takealot is the leader in South Africa's e-commerce industry, with a market share of over 50%, and has long been ranked number one in South Africa's e-commerce platform rankings. With 24.3 million e-commerce users and an e-commerce penetration rate of 41.1%, South Africa has a large and stable customer base.

The platform offers both self-operated and third-party sales models (local stores + cross-border stores shipping from official warehouses + direct-mail stores that fulfill orders upon receipt), selling products across multiple categories, including electronics, baby and maternity products, books, home goods, and gardening supplies.

02 Customer Base and Traffic

Takealot has an active customer base of over 3 million with over 1.5 million weekly orders, with 95% of that customer base coming from within South Africa. Takealot's customer base is rapidly climbing as South Africa's infrastructure further improves.

The platform receives nearly 50 million monthly visits. Its largest shareholder is Naspers (a South African media company), which holds a 96% stake. Naspers is also Tencent’s largest shareholder, holding a 25% stake, giving the platform strong financial backing. Amazon South Africa currently ranks fourth in the South African market (Amazon entered the South African market in May 2024; Chinese merchants are currently unable to list products on the platform).

Shipping Process for Direct-to-Consumer Stores:

▪ Deliver the goods to Jiahong Logistics’ Shenzhen warehouse within 3–5 days after the order is placed (Address: Room 105, Building A, Yiyuantong Xuexiang Industrial Park, No. 22 Zhonghao 2nd Road, Xiangjiaotang Community, Bantian Subdistrict, Longgang District, Shenzhen; the contact person and phone number will be sent to the corresponding operations support group after the order is placed).

▪ Jiahong Logistics will ship the goods by air to Takealot’s official warehouse (approximately 10–12 calendar days)

▪ 1–2-day delivery from the Takealot official warehouse to the customer

How to calculate the shipping cost from Shenzhen warehouse to the platform's official warehouse?

▪ 82 yuan per kilogram (special promotional rate during the beta testing period; no handling fee and no excess weight charges). For example, the shipping cost for 100 grams is: 0.1 × 82 = 8.2 yuan

▪ Maximum package dimensions: 40×50×60 cm

What happens if the order is not delivered to the Shenzhen warehouse within 5 days?

If a shipment is not delivered within 5 days, it will not be accepted by the warehouse, and a fine of 50R (approximately 20 yuan) will be imposed per order.

Takealot Last-Mile Delivery Fees (fees from the platform warehouse to the buyer’s doorstep): (The content of the original table has been converted to text; please refer to the platform’s official documentation for specific rates.)

Platform payment cycle: The first payment is made 7–14 days after the order is confirmed as received; subsequent payments are made every Thursday.

Third-party payment platform: Shande Payment (withdrawals can be made to domestic personal accounts); sellers can also withdraw funds directly to South African bank cards without paying any transaction fees.

How Platform Commissions Are Charged: Commissions are deducted after a successful transaction.

Can a direct mail store follow up with a large stock of official warehouses?

Sellers who are performing well in direct-to-consumer stores can contact us to apply to stock their inventory in our official warehouse.

Can I do self shipment for a cross-border store that has been down and running before?

No, if you want to operate a direct-to-consumer store, you’ll need to register a new business entity to apply for the direct-to-consumer store.

Are cross-border stores (prepared official warehouses) still available for application?

If you have already opened a cross-border store and have listed and shipped products, we will prioritize assisting you with the application to open a cross-border store.
