🔥What documents do international recent graduates need to find a job in Guangzhou? You can get a work visa even without experience!
Published: May 26, 2026

Lately, a lot of international students have been asking me: “I’ve just graduated and have no work experience—can I find a job in Guangzhou and get a work visa?”

The answer is: Yes! But the materials and process are completely different from those for domestic graduates. I’ve put together a guide specifically for recent graduates, clearly explaining the key points of ”applying even without experience” 👇

📌 First things first: Which path should recent graduates take?

International recent graduates who do not have two years of work experience,You cannot apply directly for Category B.The

However, there are two alternative paths:

⚠️Option 1: Earn at least 60 points → Apply for a Category B work permit

✅ Points can be earned based on educational background, university rankings, Chinese language proficiency, age, and salary

✅ Master’s degree + prestigious university + basic Chinese proficiency—that’s generally enough to meet the requirements.

⚠️Path 2: Master’s Degree Graduates → Direct Application for Category C

✅ No work experience required

✅ No points required

✅ However, spots are limited, and some cities have already tightened their policies.

Recommendation: If you can qualify for Category B, go for Category B; Category C is your safety net. The specific points table will be included later!

📝 7-Step Process: From Receiving an Offer to Working Legally

Step 1: After receiving an offer, start preparing your personal documents

🎯Highest Level of Education: Diploma, Degree Certificate, Transcript

⚠️List of Essential Materials:
✅ Highest Level of Education: Diploma, Degree Certificate, Transcript
An average score of 80+ or a GPA of 3.0 qualifies you as an ”Outstanding Graduate,” which earns you bonus points!

✅ Chinese Language Certificate:
If you have an HSK score report, upload it directly
No? Have the school issue a certificate of the language of instruction.

✅ Medical Examination Report:
You may submit a written commitment while still abroad and complete the required testing after entering the country.
However, we recommend making an appointment in advance! Designated facility in Guangzhou: Guangdong International Travel Health Center

✅ No criminal record:
If issued within the past 6 months, it must be certified by both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chinese Embassy!
Process: Online application for the CGC → Translation by a designated agency → Authentication by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs → Authentication by the embassy
Allow 1–2 months for the entire process!

✅ Proof of Employment:
Recent graduates, just send your resume!

✅ Certificate of Good Conduct from the School:
Request a “Certificate of No Criminal Record” from the School’s International Education College

Step 2: The company submits the materials, and the Expert Bureau reviews them

⚠️The company requires:

✅ Business License

✅ Legal Representative's ID Card

✅ Venue Registration Certificate

Key: Company Reports

⚠️What should be included in a company report?

✅ Explain whyWe have to hire you

✅ ProofLocal Hiring: 30 DaysCan't find a suitable candidate

Pit avoidance: Many small companies are hiring foreign nationals for the first time and don’t know how to write the required reports. We recommend discussing this with your company’s HR department in advance or looking for a template to use as a reference.

Step 3: Obtain the “Work Permit Notice”

🎯 Once the review is approved, the company will receive an electronic notification. We’ll send it to you for use in the next step.

Duration: Typically 15–30 business days

Step 4: Apply for a Z visa at the Chinese Embassy

🎯 Gather all the materials:

✅ Passport

✅ “Notice of Work Permit”

✅ Visa Application Form

After obtaining a Z visa, you may stay in the country for 30 days. The next steps must be completed within these 30 days!

Step 5: Two Things to Do After Arrival: Medical Examination + Proof of Residence

🎯Physical Examination:

  • Go to the Guangdong International Travel Health Center
  • Book in advance on the ”Yue Sheng Shi” app or the official website
  • Results will be available in 3–5 business days.

🎯Temporary Lodging Registration:

  • After ArrivalWithin 24 hoursGo to the police station in your area to complete the process
  • Bring your passport, rental agreement, or hotel registration form
  • A late fee of 500 yuan per day!

Step 6: Verify your documents at the Guangzhou Immigration Service Center

Address: Guangzhou Public Security Bureau Entry-Exit Service Hall

🎯 Make sure to bring all the required paper documents:

  • original passport
  • Z Visa Page
  • medical report
  • Temporary Lodging Registration
  • Certificates such as academic transcripts and criminal background checks
  • A copy of the company's business license, etc.

After verification is complete, pick up"Decision Granting an Administrative Permit"

Step 7: Go to the Immigration Office to apply for a work residence permit

Bring all the documents from the previous step, along with the decision notice, to submit your application.Work Residence PermitThe

It’s not truly legal work until you have it in hand! It is typically valid for one year and must be renewed 30–45 days before expiration.

💡 Key to the Points Table: How to Reach 60 Points?

sports eventPointsTips for Recent Graduates
EducationUp to 20 pointsA master's degree is generally sufficient; for a bachelor's degree, other requirements must be met.
School RankingsMaximum 10 pointsBonus points for universities ranked in the QS Top 100 and 985/211 partner institutions
Proficiency in ChineseMaximum 10 pointsHSK Level 4 passing score; Level 6 maximum score
(a person's) ageUp to 15 pointsThe ideal age range is 18–30; the sooner you apply, the better.
SalaryUp to 20 pointsGuangzhou benchmark: 15,000 per month; the higher the score, the more you earn
Work ExperienceUp to 20 pointsRecent GraduatesNone, making up for it with other items
(sth. or sb) elseUp to 5 pointsOutstanding Graduates, Patents, Awards, etc.

Strategy: Master’s degree (15–20 points) + Graduation from a prestigious university (5–10 points) + HSK Level 4 (5 points) + Age under 30 (15 points) + Salary meets the requirement (10 points) = That's basically enough for a 60.

What should I do if I don't score 60 points? Apply directly through the Category C master’s graduate track, or improve your Chinese language skills to secure a higher-paying job offer.

⚠️ A Guide to Avoiding Pitfalls for Recent Graduates

🎯Pitfall 1: Treating Internship Experience as Work Experience

  • Internships, Part-Time Jobs, and Volunteer OpportunitiesNone of them count!
  • Only formal, full-time employment counts as ”work experience.”

🎯Pitfall 2: Waiting Too Long to Obtain a Certificate of No Criminal Record

  • Dual certification takes 1–2 months; if you wait until you receive an offer to apply, it might be too late.
  • We recommend getting started before graduation!

🎯Pitfall 3: School Certificate Issued by the Wrong Department

  • It's not the Office of Academic Affairs; it'sSchool of International Education!
  • Check the school's application process in advance; some take 2–3 weeks.

🎯Pitfall 4: The company doesn’t know how to write a ”must-hire” report

  • When a small company hires a foreign national for the first time, the HR department may lack experience.
  • Proactively highlight the key points of your resume and help the company identify the reasons why you’re a good fit.

🎯Pitfall 5: 30 days after entry isn't enough

  • Waiting in line to schedule a physical exam, submitting additional documents, and slow response from the company
  • We recommend that you register your accommodation on the first day after arrival, schedule a medical exam on the second day, and follow up with the company on the third day.

concluding remarks

Gathering the required documents was really a pain, especially getting the dual certification for my criminal record check—it was time-consuming, expensive, and a real hassle 🦵

But if you map out the process and get everything ready at once, you can really save a lot of time! Plus,The New Graduate Program Offers Policy Benefits...After working for a few years, you may actually find it harder to qualify for Category C, and the point requirements will also be higher.

My suggestion:

  • Start the criminal background check process before graduation, Don't wait for an offer
  • Take the initiative to help the company prepare the rationale for why this person ”must be hired”, Don't expect HR to understand
  • 30-Day Countdown Plan After Arrival, Make the Most of Every Day

I wish you all the best with your applications, and see you in China! ✨
