Opening a bank account in Hong Kong is the first hurdle many cross-border sellers face after registering a Hong Kong company.
It wasn't because the process was complicated, but because I chose the wrong bank—I opened an account that wasn't suited to my business, and as a result, I faced restrictions everywhere.
Today, I’ll explain the differences between the main types of accounts so you can choose the right one before opening an account.

| Data Type | element |
|---|---|
| Corporate Documents | Certificate of Incorporation + Business Registration Certificate + Articles of Incorporation |
| Director Profiles | Passport (valid for at least 6 months) + Proof of address (issued within the last 3 months) |
| Shareholder Information | Passport + Proof of Address (same as the director’s) |
| business certificate | 2–3 recent business contracts + customer invoices or supplier quotes |
| Corporate Structure | If a shareholder is a legal entity, the relevant documents for that legal entity must be provided. |
Reason 1: Insufficient business documentation
Banks need to see that the “business is genuine.” Since new companies have no transaction history, they must provide a business plan, a letter of intent, or a letter of recommendation from a client to supplement this information.
Reason 2: Suspicious registered address
If the registered address is a virtual address (with no street sign or physical space), some banks will reject the application outright, citing the inability to verify the authenticity of the company’s operations.
Reason 3: Poor performance during the in-person interview
During the in-person interview, the bank will ask questions about your company’s business operations, sources of funds, and projected transaction volume. If you cannot clearly explain your company’s business operations or if your answers are inconsistent, the bank will become suspicious.
| Type of bank | Account Opening Time |
|---|---|
| Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) | 4–8 weeks (including the in-person interview) |
| Standard Chartered | 3-6 weeks |
| Bank of China Hong Kong (BOCHK) | 3-5 weeks |
| DBS/OCBC Hong Kong | 2–4 weeks (video KYC is supported in some cases) |
| virtual banking | 1-3 working days |

🔹 3. Eco-links, extra value
We connect over 500,000+ entrepreneurs with domestic and international associations (e.g. Shenzhen Cross-border E-commerce Association, Hong Kong Chinese General Chamber of Commerce), and regularly organize cross-border salons and seminars on finance and tax law. Registering a Hong Kong company through us is not just about getting a certificate - it is also about linking ecological resources such as green channel for bank account opening, cross-border payment, overseas warehouses, auditing and taxation, etc., which solves the problem of ”not knowing who to look for next after registering”, and creates secondary business opportunities.
