If you were already selling on Amazon back in 2015, you’ll surely remember one thing: those who got a head start with FBA back then enjoyed nearly three years of virtually zero competition.
You can ship to FBA warehouses anytime—no waiting in line and no approval required. Delivery times are far faster than with self-fulfillment, and you’ll almost automatically win the Buy Box. Conversion rates are 2–3 times higher than with self-fulfillment, and the CPC for ads is so low you’ll be embarrassed.
Many of the sellers who stocked their inventory in FBA as early as 2015 went on to become top sellers in their categories. It wasn’t because they were particularly smart; it was because they secured a structural advantage while others were still hesitating.
Right now, similar opportunities may be South Africa Replay.——
I. What is TFS?
TFS, which stands for Takealot Fulfillment Services, is Takealot’s in-house warehousing and distribution logistics network.
It can be thought of as the ”South African version of FBA.”
The current TFS data is as follows:

The capabilities of this logistics network are on par with those of global e-commerce platforms. With a on-time delivery rate of 99.31 TP3T, it outperforms many e-commerce platforms in mature markets—
II. What Does the Full Opening of TFS Mean?
Here’s the key update: Takealot has announced that TFS Logistics will be fully open to third-party sellers in fiscal year 2027.
Why is this important? Because TFS is not currently open to all sellers.
In the past,TFS primarily servesTakealot's In-House Operationsrespond in singingA small number of top sellers. Most small and medium-sized sellers can only use third-party overseas warehouses or ship orders themselves. While this is possible, the logistics experience falls short of TFS direct shipping—after all, TFS is the platform’s own warehousing and distribution system, deeply integrated with search rankings and traffic allocation.
Following the full launch, all Takealot sellers will be able to stock their inventory in TFS warehouses and enjoy a logistics experience on par with the platform’s own operations. This means:
First, there has been a consistent improvement in logistics efficiency. All sellers can offer 1-2 day delivery, with same-day delivery available in major cities. By ensuring that the buyer experience meets the platform’s highest standards, conversion rates will naturally increase.
Second, a weighting bonus for search rankings. Products using TFS receive a ranking boost in search results—just as Amazon FBA products naturally appear higher in search results. This isn’t speculation; it’s a standard design feature where the platform’s logistics and search algorithms are integrated.
Third, a streamlined returns and exchanges process. Returns and exchanges for products in the TFS warehouse are handled directly by the platform; sellers do not need to receive returned items, inspect them, or relist them themselves. This improves return efficiency and reduces return-related losses.
Fourth, a Prime-level delivery experience. Takealot has a membership program similar to Prime, and TFS products are automatically labeled as ”Fast Shipping,” making them more appealing to members.
Simply put:Full TFS Opening = South Africa’s ”FBA Moment”。——
III. TFS vs. FBA: History Is Repeating Itself
Let's make a side-by-side comparison:

What Benefits Did Sellers Who Got an Early Start with FBA in 2015 Enjoy?
Takealot TFS is currently at the same stage: the infrastructure is already in place, but it remains largely closed to sellers. When it opens fully in 2027, those who get a head start will be among the first to benefit. ——
IV. Why not wait until TFS is open before joining?
Many people reason: ”Once TFS is fully available, wouldn't it be better to join Takealot and use TFS directly?”
That sounds reasonable, but there are two problems.
First question:Just because you're not using TFS right now doesn't mean you can't work on Takealot. The
There are two types of sellers on Takealot: those who use TFS warehouses and those who use third-party warehouses. Currently, most Chinese sellers use third-party overseas warehouses (including our own warehouse in South Africa), and delivery times can still be as fast as 1–3 days.
Once TFS is available, you can switch from a third-party repository to a TFS repository—but only ifYou're already selling on Takealot, your store is up and running, and your listings already have rankings and reviews. The
If you wait until TFS opens to set up shop, you’ll be starting from scratch: no store, no listings, no reviews, and no operational experience. Those who got a head start, on the other hand, only need to transfer their inventory from a third-party warehouse to a TFS warehouse—a single step is all it takes to complete the upgrade.
Second question:The window of opportunity is limited. The
Once TFS is fully open, a large number of sellers will flood in. What will happen then?
What will Amazon look like in 2018, once FBA has fully matured? Fees have tripled, bid prices have quintupled, and new listings receive virtually zero organic traffic without advertising. Those who entered the market three years early reaped the benefits, while latecomers are left with only the scraps.
Takealot won't follow Amazon's path exactly, but the pattern of evolution from ”Blue Ocean to Red Ocean” is the same. (Consultation + csdrcc12345)

V. What Is the Right Rhythm?
If you start planning for Takealot now, by the time TFS is fully launched in 2027, you should have completed the following:

Build up ”operational capabilities” before TFS launches; once TFS is up and running, all you’ll need to do is switch over to ”logistics capabilities.” Operational capabilities take time to develop, while logistics capabilities require nothing more than a single warehouse intake. ——
VI. Our Role in This Matter
We started operating Takealot in South Africa a long time ago. We registered the company, set up overseas warehouses, and got our network of stores up and running—these weren’t preparations for TFS; they were our own business.
But the news that TFS is opening up completely has certainly made our roadmap clearer: now, every additional SKU we list, every review we accumulate, and every listing we optimize is laying the groundwork for the growth phase following TFS’s launch.
What we do for sellers is also quite simple:Register a South African company, open a local store, coordinate shipments to overseas warehouses, and receive step-by-step guidance on operations. It’s not just about managing your account for you—it’s about helping you get up and running—because once TFS launches, you’ll need to be able to handle that surge of traffic on your own.
